curacaoCuracao appeared millions of years ago, forming under the sea from lava rock on which coral has grown for centuries. Reefs have surrounded the island for millions of years, attaching to the shore like a narrow border. They are like marvelous gardens in some places, with fragile corals and are haven to brightly colored tropical fish. And in some other places the massive coral formations extend into depths with deep-water fish patrolling the plunging walls.

Across the entire south coast, Curacao boasts over 60 identified dive spots to select from with 44 of them equipped with chains. Curacao's most impressive natural sites will be unveiled, once you descend into the depths, experiencing the unforgettable shallow reefs.

And here are some tips for exploring the reefs:

• Do not anchor on corals. Fasten to a mooring buoy or jetty, or anchor carefully in sand or rubble patches.
• Do not be careless in underwater caverns and caves. Don't stay too long there and avoid crowding, as bubbles collect on the roof and air can hurt the reef animals.
• When swimming across the shallow part of a reef, follow the sandy areas, as you may accidentally crush corals and disturb other animals.
• Never touch corals or hang of, rest on, or kick them, as they are living animals and are damaged even by gentle handling.
• Try not to kick up the sand. It damages corals and other reef animals when it settles and spoils the visibility for others.
• Marine turtles are endangered, so don't eat their meat.
• Spearfish is prohibited.
• Take the garbage with you, and if you see it , pick it up.
