The majority of the dive sites in Hurghada are small island or reef rising from the deep. In this area diving is made from boats, and day trips are made on charter boats. Night dive is also not allowed there.

The Strait of Gubal:

Shaab Ali is a large reef area with clean water. The place offers three large wrecks with corals that covers most of its parts.

Shaab Rock is located at the Southern end of Shaab Ali. There are also wrecks and sharks can be encountered here. It requires generally drift dives.

Shadwan is the largest island in the strait of Gubal. Here you may encounter large sharks, tuna and barracuda especially in the middle third of the island.

Siyul Kabirah (Big Siyul) boasts of black corals and some nice caves. You may see part of the reefs also above the surface.

Umm Usk lies in the Northernmost site of the Gubal Group. The place features coral outcrops and reef fish.

Abu Nuhas is the greatest navigation hazard in the northern Red Sea. The site was named after the oldest wreck which was carrying copper (Nuhas in Arabic). There are 4 wrecks in all that can be accessed and is considered a good spot for wreck divers.

Umm Qamar (Moon) is the name of a little island. The area where the island has mooring is frequented with divers. There are fringing coral reefs and many caves. There are also sharks here.

Shabroor Umm Qamar is regarded as the best diving site in the area. There is a ship wreck surrounded with many creatures. Many of the creatures can be touched and even fed like the Napoleon and lionfish.

Safaga
It is a small town and port at the south. There are 5 diving sites: Abu Hashish, Sharm El Arab, Ota Tobia, Panorama Reef and Abu Helal.

Sharm El Arab boasts best of the coral formations and reef fish. It features very big basket stars. You may try night dives here.
