Scuba certification is a certification given to someone who has finished a diving course, which mainly teaches the rules of scuba diving through lectures, pool work and actual open water scuba diving. The majority of scuba diving resorts, diving centers and camps oblige divers to be certified before they can go scuba diving. Though some permit non-certified divers to go for an underwater adventure, but divers, especially the beginners, are encouraged to get a scuba diving certification.
And the best thing about this certification is that it never runs out. And since you’ve earned it, you may enjoy the privileges that come with it for life.
And the privileges are:
1) Since you have already learned how to scuba dive and all the principles of diving, you can enjoy more your underwater experience. You don’t have to worry about the dos and the don’ts, how you’re going to safely take the plunge into the water and swim back up to the surface and other things, you can simply relish the impressive underwater scenery as you already know what to do.
2) The certification is recognized anywhere you go. So you can enjoy diving camps at all the hottest diving spots—even those in other countries.
3) Being a certified diver can be your first step towards becoming a professional. With a basic open-water diving credential you may get advanced diving trainings like trainings on drift diving, night diving and navigational techniques.
If you want to get certified, you have to be skillful in swimming. In fact you need not be an expert swimmer; you just have to prove that you can swim at least two hundred yards using any kind of stroke and float on water for about ten minutes. If you can do these and there is no health problems, you can most likely stay comfortably underwater without any trouble.
You should be at least 15 years old to get the open water diver certification. If the charter does not make it compulsory, most open water certifications let you dive by yourself without an instructor present. For people from 10 to 15 years old there is also Junior Open Water Diver Certification. Many centers may require you to provide a medical certificate before enrolling in a certification program.
