diving-equipmentScuba diving equipment makes scuba diving possible. You will need to know everything about scuba diving gear and know how it works in order to feel confident underwater. You will be learning all about scuba diving gear on the scuba diving certification training, how to assemble it and how to use it safely and responsibly. Alas, several scuba diving certification courses do not spend much time explaining how the gear works and most importantly how to choose the right scuba diving gear.

A beginner will need at least 5 items - the bare essentials - just to begin training. All the rest of scuba gear can be rented, but these 5 items are personal and must be fitted. These items must be bought, as dive shops will not rent them.

They are: scuba mask, scuba booties, swim fins, scuba weights and scuba belts, and snorkels.
After practicing a scuba diver might want to choose some of the other scuba diving gear for personal use. Usually the next item a diver will buy is his/her own wet suit. There are many styles, shapes, thicknesses and sizes of wet suites. If you want to avoid the worry of renting wet suite, you should have your own one. You may buy the one which will fit well and give you both warmth and freedom of movement.
A beginning diver might also own other gear such as: BCDs, gauges and scuba regulators.

Scuba gear comes in thousands of styles, there are gadgets galore and advanced "fancy" gear such as integrated weight systems (BCD and weights combined) and rebreathers (which recycle your exhaled breath back into the scuba system). If scuba diving is your hobby and you have money to spend you will never run out of gear to acquire.

Finally, there are the scuba tanks. Of course, it is always easiest to rent them from a dive shop where they will be inspected, maintained, tested and pre-filled. At times scuba divers may buy in a "pony tank", which is a smaller, spare tank often equipped with its own regulator and gauges.
