Mask

Mask is your outlook of the underwater world and consequently an important piece of gear. If you think which mask is the right one for you, pay the most of your attention to the size. The rest depends on your personal preferences and you just need to choose what you like the best. Read few essential things to bear in mind when choosing:

Material
Today the majority of masks are made of silicone or rubber. Both soft and flexible rubber-like silicone masks ensures a comfortable seal around your face (providing it has the right size).

Masks made of rubber are generally cheaper, they are fine to use, but not as soft and flexible as silicone masks.

And the lenses should be made of tempered glass, if broken there will be no sharp fragments.

Size
There are many different sizes and shapes of masks.

The mask should make a fit around your eyes and nose ensuring no water enters. Usual terms used are narrow, standard and wide. If you have a small face, you will have narrow to standard size, standard face - standard size, large face - standard to wide size.

Volume
The volume of the mask is the amount of air in the mask when put upon your face. There are low, medium and high volume masks. You should choose volume depending on your preferences. Masks with low volume are generally also lighter in weight and therefore also feels easier to wear. They are also easier to clear if flooded (the amount of water that needs to be cleared out is smaller).

Masks with a large volume create a sense of space and some large volume masks even have side glasses built in for more light/movements to penetrate.

In case your nose bone is protruding, think over to buy a mask with at least a standard volume, preferably with the glass separate on each side, generally leaving more space for the nose. And vice versa, small and narrow faces are more likely to get a better fit with a low volume mask.

Color
Silicone masks offer the benefits of being translucent, allowing for light penetration and creating a more open feeling. The clearer your mask you choose, the more light enters and enables you to see better.

The preference for photographers, hunters and cave divers is black silicone, as it reduces any light penetration/distractions from the sides and lets the diver focus solely on what is in front of him or her.

You may choose colors of frame depending on your preferences.
